Chapter One prologue, demo routes, bosses, collectibles, and combat fundamentals in one place.

Guides & Tutorials Hub

Welcome to the Akatori guides hub. Whether you are playing the free Chapter One prologue on Steam or the separate movement-focused demo, this section collects practical walkthroughs written for real progression bottlenecks — not generic metroidvania filler.

Akatori follows Mako, a monk from the Firebird Temple, as she explores myth-inspired realms threatened by the Amber Storms. Her companion is a red bird sealed inside a mystical staff that doubles as a weapon and a parkour tool. Mastering when to fight with the staff, when to switch to fists, and how to chain traversal into combat is the difference between a clean run and repeated deaths at a gate or boss arena.

Start here if you are new

If you have never touched the game, begin with the Staff Weapon Guide for the one-weapon combat philosophy, then Getting Started for Chapter One versus demo scope. For narrative context without spoilers, read Story & Lore. From there, follow the Chapter One walkthrough for route order, then return here for specialized topics.

Chapter One prologue guides

Chapter One is a self-contained slice of the full metroidvania: two biomes, eight regular enemy types, collectible ability items, and a samurai-style finale against Takatsugu the Sentinel (also called the Ancient Guard). These guides cover the content most players search for after their first failed boss attempt:

  • Beat Takatsugu — phase-by-phase dodges, staff stagger timing, and when bare-hand flurries are safer than blocking.
  • All Achievements — all nine Chapter One achievements, including Invincible (no-damage Takatsugu) and missable checks before Kohakujō.
  • Prayer Beads — every bead location, merchant purchases, and walls you must break before the point of no return.

For a dedicated achievement checklist with Steam names, also see Chapter One achievements.

Demo-specific guides

The standalone Akatori demo (Monk Forest, vertical bamboo, underwater segment) ends with different highlights: a Chaos Arena survival room, a high-speed Serpent chase, and a climactic fight against the Bumblebee. If that is the build you are playing, prioritize these pages:

  • Serpent Chase — momentum routing, hook timing, and how to avoid losing speed during the escape sequence.
  • Swimming Tips — breath management, underwater dashes, and staff hooks in the flooded section that precedes the chase.

Boss write-ups for the demo finale live under Bumblebee and Serpent.

Staff combat is deeper than light attack spam. Start with the dedicated Staff Weapon Guide, then read Combat Combos for grounded chains, aerial juggles, staff throws, and how energy depletion forces you into fist flurries — a rhythm Takatsugu punishes if you misread his wind-ups. Read both alongside Beat Takatsugu before attempting Invincible.

Story and world context

For Amber Storms lore, Mako’s background, and realm structure without datamined spoilers, see Story & Lore. Pair it with Maps hub when you need geography instead of narrative summary.

Boss guides

When you want attack names, arena hazards, and achievement tie-ins without a full route guide, use the Bosses hub:

  • Takatsugu — Chapter One finale, Ancient Guard lore, staff vs fist matchups.
  • Bumblebee — demo climax, rhythm and positioning notes.
  • Serpent — chase encounter breakdown (environmental boss, not a traditional arena).

How to use this hub efficiently

Play through an area once without spoilers, then read the guide for the section that killed you. Collectibles and achievements are intentionally front-loaded in Chapter One — beads, relics, and secret passages are easier if you consult Prayer Beads and All Achievements before entering Kohakujō. For Takatsugu, treat Freedom for the Bird as your baseline clear and Invincible as a separate practice run once patterns are memorized.

New guides will be added here as Contrast Games expands Akatori toward its full release. Every page uses locale-agnostic internal links so translated versions stay consistent after npm run generate.

If you are returning after a break, skim Getting Started for a refresher on staff energy, then jump directly to the guide matching your current wall — Takatsugu deaths, missed beads, or demo chase failures all have dedicated pages linked above.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Should I play Chapter One or the demo first?

Chapter One is the story prologue with Takatsugu, Kohakujō, and nine Steam achievements. The demo is a separate 45-minute slice focused on traversal, the Serpent chase, and Bumblebee. Either works as an introduction; pick based on whether you want narrative progress or pure movement challenges.

Which guide should I read before Kohakujō?

Read Prayer Beads and All Achievements first. Several collectibles and merchant purchases become missable once you travel to Kohakujō, including beads needed for Pray, Pray, Pray.

Where is the Takatsugu no-damage guide?

Beat Takatsugu covers safe openings and dodge timing for a normal clear. Pair it with the Takatsugu boss page and the Invincible entry on the Chapter One achievements list for a dedicated no-hit run.

Do these guides cover the full Akatori release?

This hub currently documents Chapter One and the public demo. Full-game biomes, bosses, and systems will get new guides as official content ships.

How do I report an outdated guide after a patch?

Check the Updates hub for patch notes first. If a mechanic changed, update the relevant JSON under content/source/guides/ and run npm run sync before rebuilding the site.
